Bright Sparks Stanbridge is located in the grounds of Stanbridge Primary School in Downend, Bristol.

We are open from 8.00am until 6.00pm, Monday to Friday all year round excluding Bank Holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year. Within these opening hours we offer a selection of half-, full- and school-day session lengths. We also offer a limited number
of term-time places.

At Stanbridge we welcome children from two to four years old. Our pre-school setting is divided into two age groups:

  • Caterpillars (24 – 36 months)
  • Butterflies (36 – 60 Months)

Each age group is based in a bespoke room with resources and activities appropriate to the age of children. Both rooms have access to their own garden area.

At Stanbridge we offer free funded hours for 2, 3 and 4 year olds including the 30 hours extended-entitlement for 3 and 4 year olds. These hours can be spread across the year or, subject to availability, booked on a termly basis. We accept tax-free childcare vouchers and all childcare vouchers.

Caterpillars (24-36 months)

Young children learn most effectively from play, exploration and talk, and develop their curiosity by creating, investigating and exploring.  By offering a range of play opportunities tailored to individual children’s needs and development we aim to foster each toddlers intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. Staff in this room adhere to a 1:4 ratio of staff to children with children who are 2-3 year olds.

Butterflies (3 – 4 years)

Children moving from Caterpillars to Butterflies have the advantage of remaining in familiar surroundings with staff that will already be well known to them. All pre-school activities are carefully planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, intended to prepare children for when they move on to reception class at their local school.

The Early Learning Goals of the EYFS are delivered through seven key areas of learning. These areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Of the seven key areas of learning three are considered to be fundamental for igniting children’s curiosity, for building their enthusiasm and capacity for learning, and for forming relationships and thriving. These three areas are called the ‘Prime’ areas and include Communication and languagePhysical development and Personal, social and emotional development.

We also support children in four ‘Specific’ areas through which the ‘Prime’ areas are strengthened and applied. These are LiteracyMathematicsExpressive arts and design and Understanding the world.

In the Caterpillar room we operate a 1:8 ratio of staff to children.

Our Garden

Our large garden encourages free play and investigation in the world around us. We encourage the children to explore individually and work in groups to develop knowledge and undertanding of the world.
